Ipaja Lions Club Flags off World Diabetes Day with Free Screenings.

The UN General Assembly, in 2007, adopted resolution 61/225 designating 14 November as World Diabetes Day. To flag-off the chain of events in Lions Clubs family, District 404B1, to commemorate the World Diabetes Day, Ipaja Lions Club staged free diabetic screening, free BP check, free eye screening and donations of drugs and glasses to the people of Ipaja community at the ever-busy Ayobo-Ipaja LCDA Secretariat.

Speaking at the multiple humanitarian service project, the President of Ipaja Lions Club, Lion Wale Oladipupo said diabetic and eye care awareness are two core humanitarian project of Lions Club International. As a Lions Club, the President said, Ipaja Lions Club has the mandate to replicate Lions club international’s project vision in its local community. Adding, “that’s it is the essence of Ipaja Lions Club’s Global Service Local Impact initiative”.                     A beneficiary undergoing vision screening 

Also speaking at the event, a past District Governor of District 404B1, Lion Lekan Babalola said the project is put together for people in Ipaja community to know their diabetes status. According to the PDG, it is important for people to have the knowledge of their diabetic and eye status, so that appropriate correction therapy can be applied.

More than 100 people were screened for diabetes status and visual impairments. About 120 glasses of varying lens prescriptions and drugs were donated by the club to the beneficiaries.

Lions became Knight of the Blind since 1925, when Helen Keller, a blind woman, challenged International Association of Lions club to champion the course of the visually impaired.
