As part of its plans to establish six eye clinics, fully funded by Lions Club International Foundation and Latter-Day Saints Charity, in six different primary health centres in Ogun State, the Lions District 404B1 Nigeria visited Leslie Primary Health Centre in Ilaro , Yewa South Local Government, to inspect the readiness of the facilities in the Health Centre for the establishment of a fully functional modular eye clinic.
Speaking during the courtesy visit to the Head of Local Government Administration Yewa South, the Chairman of the Sustainable Vision Center Committee, Lion Waheed Kadiri, a past district governor of District 404B1, informed the Local Government Head, Alhaji Olusesi Tajudeen, that the mission of the team is to identify and inspect the particular primary health centre in the local government that Lions can site a modern eye clinic at.
PDG Waheed Kadiri said the proposed eye centre in Ilaro will be one of the six satellite eye centres that District 404B1, under the full sponsorship of Lions Club International Foundation Lions and Latter-Day Saints Charity, will put in place to feed the ultra- modern Eye Clinic earlier donated and funded by Lions Club International Foundation and Latter-Day Saints Charity at the State General hospital in Ota.
In his response, the head of the Local government Administration, Alhaji Olusesi Tajudeen, thanked Lions club International for impacting positively into the lives of people particularly the under privileged. He expressed the local government’s gratitude to lions for bringing a modern modular eye clinic to Yewa South and assured the Sustainable Vision Center Committee of full support of the government.
The Medical Officer of the Local Government, Dr Adebowale Taiwo said Eye service is an essential part of primary health services. He assured the committee of continuous support from the local government health services in terms of provision of logistics support such as optometrist, ophthalmologist and data collection
The Project Administrator, Past District Governor Lekan Babalola, said the proposed modular eye center will take care of all eye issues except cataract surgery. Adding that those in need of the surgery will be given referral to the Lions’ Ultra- Modern Eye Clinic at the State General Hospital, Ota.
The modular Eye Centre upon completion will serve the purpose of eye screening; examination and diagnostic as well as refraction. PDG Babalola said the eye center will be equipped with spectacle frames and optical workshop equipment including edging machines, lens meter, polishing machine, tint machine, grooving machine and optical pliers.
The team inspected facilities such as office space for consultation, equipment and patients’ reception at Leslie Primary Health Centre, Ilaro and made necessary upgrades plans for sustainable eye care services.
