The Eye Center at the Ayetoro Primary Health Centre in the Yewa North Local Government of Ogun State will be refurbished and upgraded with state- of- the- art eye health service equipment by Lions Clubs International Foundation (LCIF) in conjunction with Latter-Day Saint Charity
This was disclosed by Lions District 404B1 Sustainable Vision Center Committee’s Project Administrator, Lion Lekan Babalola, a Past District Governor, during eye care facilities inspection in Yewa North Local Government.
The Ogun State Eye Health Program Coordinator, Mr Aina Adetola, who led the Lions District 404B1 Sustainable Vision Center Committee to the Medical Officer of Health (MOH) of Yewa North LG informed the MOH about the Lions plan to establish modular eye care centers in six different primary health centres in the Ogun West Senatorial District and that Yewa North, precisely Ayetoro Primary Health Centre is included in the project.
While addressing the MOH, Lions District 404B1 Past District Governor Lekan Babalola said that the proposed modular eye center is conceptualized to bring eye health care service to the grassroot. According to him, “Lions’ vision is to give vision to humanity and that is why the International Association of Lions Clubs is globally refers to as knight of the blind”. Adding that apart from vision, Lions Clubs also focus on other global humanitarian services including Pediatric Cancer, Diabetes, Feeding the Hungry, Environment Protection and Youth Empowerment.
Lion Lekan Babalola informed the MOH that the modular eye health project in Ogun State comes as a result of great successes recorded at the Lions ultra-modern eye clinic at the State General Hospital, Ota. According to him, the magnitude of success at Lions funded Eye Health Services at the state hospital, prompted Lions Clubs International Foundation and Latter-Day Saints Charity to decide to scale up eye health services in Ogun State by deploying resources to address eye health challenges at the grassroots. Adding that Lions will upgrade the Eye Center in Ayetoro Primary Health Center to international standard with modern equipment. Babalola solicited for government support in terms of making available personnel that Lions will train to the required standard for seamless eye health service.
The Medical Officer of Health, Dr Akindele Adebayo thanked Lions for the great opportunity to have the modular Eye Health Service project in Ayetoro. According to the MOH, the moribund eye service center at the Ayetoro Primary Health Centre is long due for overhauling. Adding that in the course of his work, he has had to refer virtually all eye cases from the health center to Abeokuta, the state capital, due to lack of equipment and facilities, He promised the support of the local government for the Lions modular eye clinic.
At the meeting with the Yewa North Local Government EXCO including the Chairman, Hon. Chief Gabriel Ogunyemi Oluwole, the Vice Chairman, Hon. Olubukola Omoyayi, the Head of Local Government Administration, Mr Ayo Lemose and others, the leader of Lions’ Sustainable Vision Center Committee, PDG Babalola assured the gathering that the ill-equipped Eye Center in Ayetoro will be refurbished comprehensively to deliver excellent eye health care services. Adding that “What we want from you is logistic support in terms of personnel to efficiently run the modular eye center after completion and mobilization of top class dignitaries in the local government during the commissioning of the project”
In his response, the Local Government boss, commended Lions for great service to humanity. He expressed appreciation to Lions on behalf of all and sundry in the Yewa North Local Government for bringing the modular eye center to Ayetoro. Like Oliver Twist, the chairman solicited for more Lions Service Projects for Yewa North communities.
