Lions District 404B1 Modular Eye Centers Much More Better…

A past District Governor of Lions District 404 B1, Lion Lynda Oluremi Odunmbaku has affirmed that the newly constructed modular eye centers in six primary health centers in Ogun State have better equipment and facilities, as well as better trained personnel than many public and private eye hospitals. Lynda, a member of the Lions District 404 B1 Sustainable Vision Project Committee, disclosed this last week during the official commissioning of the last of the six modular eye centers project, Ayetoro Modular Eye Center, in the Yewa North Local Government Area of Ogun State.

The Ayetoro Modular Eye Center commissioning attracted dignitaries including state and local government officials, the Alaye of Ayetoro, Oba Abdulazeez Isola, represented by the Secretary, Alaye-in-Council, Chief Kunle Amosu, the Amono Oba of Ayetoroland, members of Lions District 404 B1, Chiefs, kith and kin of Ayetoroland.

The Project Chairperson, Lion (PDG) Waheed Kadiri, in his speech disclosed that though Ayetoro Modular Eye Center is the last to be commissioned of the six modular centers, but it is the best of all the centers, “it’s coincidentally a case of reserving the best for the last. While congratulating the people of Ayetoro, Kadiri admonished them to make good use of the center for their eye health challenges. He urged the people to be conscious of their eye health status, including that of the children. According to PDG Kadiri, the status of the eyes of a child can negatively affect the growth and development of the child.

Also speaking at the unveiling ceremony, Lion (PDG) Lekan Babalola corroborated Lion (PDG) Odunmbaku’s assertion that the modular eye center is highly equipped with the state-of-art eye health service equipment that big public and private eye hospitals do not have. Some of the equipment and facility supports for logistics include screening equipment, examination and diagnostic gadgets, refraction equipment, optical workshop, prescription glasses and other accessories. Logistics support according to Babalola include standby generator, desktop computers among others.

Mr Aina Adetola of Ogun state Ministry of Health, who represented the Ogun State Commissioner for Health, Dr Tomi Coker implored the people of Ayetoro to fully utilize the eye health facilities in the center. He urged the people to embark on massive publicity for the modular eye center to justify the citing of the center in Ayetoroland.

The Health Educator in charge of Yewa North Local Government, Adekunle Ilusanya thanked lions clubs for bringing the modular center to Ayetoro, where it is most needed. Ilusanya seized the opportunity of the commissioning to educate the people about eye health problems, particularly causes of eye blinding issues which, he said, include congenital disorder at conception, STD and poor nutrition during pregnancy. He urged religion associations in the Yewa North LG to embark on advocacy to sensitise their members to utilize the modular centre.

The Yewa North LG Chairman, Honorable Oluwole Ogunyomi, while thanking Lions Clubs International Foundation and Latter-Day Saint Charities, the donors for the project, for their kind heartedness, encouraged the people to bring all their eye challenges to the center. The LG boss also advise that people, especially from the age of 40 should routinely screen their eyes twice a year.

The Amono Oba of Ayetoroland, Chief Kunle Amosu, who is also the Secretary, Alaye-in-Council, noted that the donation of modular eye center to Ayetoroland is unprecedented. He expressed gratitude on behalf of the people to Lions Clubs International Foundation and Latter-Day Saint Charities. He also encouraged the people to make good use of the facility. “It’s one thing to be given something, it’s another thing to appreciate the thing. I urged you all to make sure the center functions properly as the center is now Ayetoro own.”

Amosu also advised the Local and state government to use information spread apparatus at their disposal to propagate information about the center so that people can take advantage of the facility through adequate publicity. He also appealed to the state and local governments to ensure adequate supply of trained personnel

High Chief Amono Oba challenged the people to look after the center by being vigilant and security conscious. He implored Ayetoro people to join service clubs like International Association of Lions Clubs.
